This wonderful ministry began seven years ago with a group of women that loved to knit. Prayer shawls are either knitted or crocheted and when completed they are given to people going through a difficult time such as illness, anxiety, loss of a loved one, or other times of transition, changing of jobs, marriage. Prayers are woven into the shawls for God’s healing and comforting presence.
The 2010-2011 group meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month alternating between the Central Campus in the lobby and the Sow’s Ear in Verona. Our meetings at Central will be Sept 15, Nov 17, Jan 19, March 16, and May 18; Our meetings at the Sow's Ear in Verona are Oct 20, Dec 15, Feb 16, and April 20. All gatherings are from 6:30-8:00.

Some Thank You's received by Shepherd's Hands
From Louis Castens: (lives at Oakwood) Thank you for the gift you gave me recently (a prayer shawl) for the rough weather ahead, the coming of fall and winter. I am at a loss to say “Thank You” but the feeling is here to repeat again and again. Louis
From Irene Rouleau: Dear Shepherds’ Hands, Thank you for the lovely lap robe—it is beautiful, and will be especially enjoyable as we get to the cold weather. It is truly a lovely gift and such a neat idea. Thank you again. Sincerely Irene Rouleau
Dear Deb and Group, Thank you so much for the beautiful prayer shawl! It was suck a wonderful gift to receive while in the hospital. Thank you all again very much! Sincerely, Nicole Nelson
Thank you to Pastor Sheryl, and Pastor Rod for their comforting words of prayer. The good Lord must have given me strength to get through this ordeal. Also to Deb for bringing the beautiful prayer shawl. I have cuddled with it many times. And finally to Mary Fowler for bringing a beautiful basket of flowers to brighten my hospital room and now my living room. I hope you know how appreciative I was of all the visits. Sincerely Joanne Danielsen
To Members of Good Shepherd Lutheran, Thank you so much for the beautiful green knit prayer shawl. It truly was a comfort for my daughter’s body and soul! “The blessing of the Lord be upon you” Psalm 129:8. The shawl is a testimony of that psalm. May God return to all of you the kindness you have shown us! Peace be with you, Rich, Lori and Ali Wandschneider (friends of the Wallens)
From a 10year old girl (Ali) who was a recipient of a prayer shawl, written by her Mother:
Many, many thanks for all of the gifts, cards and the very special poster made for Ali. They are all treasures in such a difficult time. Ali is trying to sleep, unsuccessfully due to her finger pokes every hour. She does have her prayer shawl wrapped around her and I am counting on that shawl and all the other prayers being said to get her through this health issue. Seeing all of you and especially Stephanie truly lifted her spirits, it's always so good to see her laughing and smiling. It's the best medicine for her parents too!!
Thank you so much for your prayers and for the prayer shawl--it is really being put to good use! And please pass this along to the knitters of the prayer shawls--what an incredible blessing they are!
Dear Shepherds Hands, Thank you so much for the beautiful and warm prayer shawl that was brought to me when I was hospitalized for recent heart surgery. As my cardiovascular system is readjusting to a new mitral valve in my heart, it is often difficult to maintain body temperature. At such times, the shawl is a welcome comfort, providing just the right amount of additional warmth. Equally appreciated are the prayers and thoughts that accompany the making of these shawls and the contribution this adds to the healing process. My recovery is going well in no small part due to the prayers and kindness of others. Thank you again for the blessings you have given to me through your ministry. Sincerely, Jeff Kosloske
Dear Debbie, Thank you for the comfort and support you have given me during my illness. Your kind visits and thoughtful prayers were a big part of my recovery. Please extend my thanks to everyone for the prayer shawl and the beautiful flowers. I can’t thank you enough. Warmly, Susan Pleus
Dear Friends, I want to thank you for my beautiful prayer shawl. The staff here want to know where I got such a lovely shawl in this color. I’m on the 13th day post op and they tell me I’m doing very well. I do feel good and take pain meds only to go to PT. I thank you for your prayers and am sure that this is the reason. Fondly, Joanne Lattuada
Thanks to Pr. Brent and parish nurse Deb Puchner for visits and phone calls. Also for the beautiful vase of flowers and the prayer afghan, was much enjoyed. Marcella Schwanz
Dear Debbie, Thank you and thank the ladies of Good Shepherd for the beautiful prayer shawl you brought to me while I was hospitalized. During my recovery I put the prayer shawl around my shoulders and felt the warmth and love of the ladies who gave so many hours knitting and praying that it would one day do just that for someone. I am so blessed to be that someone. Thank you from the heart In Christina love, Lorraine Forsyth
Just a note to let you know how much I appreciated your prayers and visits during my recent confinement at UW hospital. Thank you very much. Also a big thank you to the members of Good Shepherd who created the beautiful prayer shawl which you presented to me on your first visit. Not only is the shawl beautiful but it has given me much comfort as I wore it frequently while in the hospital and also since I’ve been home. Thanks you Good Shepherd. Sincerely Bob Schultz (from Oshkosh)
And from his daughter Sue Hagen: “Anytime he was out of bed he kept his prayer shawl securely wrapped around his shoulders. He continues to wear it at home in Oshkosh as a reminder of all the prayers being sent for him.”
