Good Shepherd: God With Us
Thursday, 12 March 2009 00:00

“..See the home of God is among mortals. God will dwell with them; they will be God’s people, and God will be with them.   (Revelation 21:3)

I remember the first Sunday I set foot in Good Shepherd Church.  I just completed Graduate School and was looking for a church home.  It had been awhile since I was part of a church community, but I knew what I was looking for….so I thought.

Compared to my rural home town church, Good Shepherd was huge.  There must have been over 250 attending worship service and I didn’t know one person.  This isn’t for me, I thought.  Then something very strange, but wonderful, happened; something I will never forget.  There was a recent death within the congregation.  Everyone was crying. The pastor was preaching on eternity and how much God loved this person who died and how much God loved this faith community. I looked around.  No longer did the church seem huge or the numbers so large.  It was a very powerful and grace given experience.

I felt the holy spirit that morning I visited Good Shepherd 26 years ago.  I continue to feel God’s spirit dwell among our church community in all ministries, but most of all, in the weekly worship service.  We are God’s people and God will be with us.
